Lesson 6 of 42: The Story of Joseph
Looking deep in the person Joseph
Genesis 37-40
1. Joseph was the favorite of his dad (37:4)
2. Joseph was sold to slavery by his brothers (39:2-6)
3. Joseph Jailed because he denied Potiphar's wife's advances (39:8-10)
4. Joseph forgotten in jail by his friends (40:14-15)
You would know a person by how he acts privately.
You would know a person by how he responds to temptation.
Genesis 39:7-10
Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, 7 and after a while his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”
8 But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care. 9 No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” 10 And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her.
1. He valued privilege - "with me in charge"
2. He valued responsibility - "entrusted"
3. He valued authority - "no one is greater in this house"
4. He valued generosity and kindness - "my master has withheld nothing from me"
5. He valued spirituality - "how then could i do such a wicked thing and sin against God?"
